Second impression of the first edition. Original black cloth with the illustrated and unclipped dust-jacket. Two graphic novels in one book, told in a series of woodcuts that read different ways up and start from opposite ends of the book. With a total of 143 woodcuts. Held in green card box, slightly split along one join, with flyer for Masereel's 'Six Woodcuts from the Idea' loosely inserted. Masereel (1889 1972) was a Flemish painter and graphic artist known for his woodcuts focused on political and social issues, such as war and capitalism. He also illustrated classical works by Tolstory, Zola and Wilde amongst others. Seller Inventory # 15482
