First UK Edition (first printing) of Carr's scarce second novel. 8vo. 192pp. Publisher's brown boards lettered in gold to the spine. Pale-blue end-papers. A faint scratch to the front board otherwise a near fine copy in like dustwrapper priced 25s to the inside flap (as called for). The dustwrapper would be fine except for a 1.3 cm tear to the top edge of the front panel. The dustwrapper is NOT faded (as so often seen). Carr's second novel, drawn from his own experiences as an intelligence officer stationed at RAF Bathurst in Gambia. A Season in Sinji recreates life on a wartime RAF flying boat station in an African backwater. The dialogue evokes a wide range of characters, and in the bizarre cricket match which acts as a catharsis to the novel's mounting passions, human dramas and irony are portrayed.
