A first edition, first printing of The Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien, published by George Allen and Unwin, London in 1977. A near fine book free from internal inscriptions, some light shelf wear to the cloth bound boards,text block lightly toned with dark blue top stain. In a near fine unclipped wrapper with bumping to spine tips, upper knuckles of front and rear flap folds and upper edge of front panel, browning to the spine and front and rear flaps. Map in rear still present. The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien is a mythic history of Middle-earth, detailing its creation, gods and early ages before The Lord of the Rings. It follows the tragic tale of the Silmarils, sacred jewels crafted by the elf F�anor, and the epic wars against Morgoth, the first Dark Lord. Filled with heroism, betrayal and destiny, the book weaves legends of elves, men and divine beings, shaping the foundation of Tolkien's vast and enchanting universe.
