Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Pictorial green cloth with gilt lettering, pp.xii, 292. Engraved illustrations by Wolf, C Whymper, Keulemans and Thorburn, some full page ( all present ). The author was regarded as an authority on British birds and wrote a number of books on the subject as well as columns in " The Field ". This is a somewhat tired copy, the cover illustration being a bit dull ; it is more difficult to see on the spine. The gilt lettering is reasonably bright on the cover, faded but legible on the spine. The cloth is a little bit grubby, as is the text generally which has more fingermarks than is decent for an old book. The front endpaper hinge is broken and open, the front endpaper is missing and the half title is rather fingered. It has been pasted down onto the next blank which I can see carries a long inscription but I cannot make out the signature. This first packet of leaves up to the introduction page is detached. The text hereon is tight, and the rear endpaper present, although the hinge is cracked along its length. So a reading copy but still not without its charms. Seller Inventory # 009739
