Blue cloth, gilt lettering on front cover and spine, 12mo, xvi, 110 pp., frontis portrait of the author. Cornet-Auquier (1887-1916) was a graduate of the University of Dijon. He was a professor at Glasgow when World War I began, and as a French reservist was called to active duty in August 1914. He served as Captain in the 133rd Infantry Regiment in the Vosges and died March 2, 1916 from shrapnel wounds suffered in combat. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre and made a Knight of the Legion of Honor. This book consists of letters sent to his family. Edited and translated with an introduction by Theodore Staton. No marks in book, binding tight. Light moisture stain at top of ffep, half-title, and frontis. Covers clean, but top edge of text block shows some soiling. Book condition VG. Binding: HB. Edition: First Printing, April 1918, of the First American Edition.
