Originally published in 1931, this "Blue Ribbon" edition arrived in 1938, halfway between the 1936 publication of GONE WITH THE WIND and the film's release in 1939. With record sales of Ms. Mitchell's book, it isn't a stretch to imagine the publishers of TIDEWATER MARYLAND trying to cash in on the "Southern History" bandwagon especially since the tag "Its History, Its Tradition, Its Romantic PLANTATION MANSIONS, and the Celebrated Personages who give it glamour" doesn't appear on the cover of the first printings. -- This is a fun read with as much dish and gossip as history and fact. The story-telling is fast-paced, the language Dickensian but with glamour instead of gloom. This is old-school reading all the way, down to the fonts used - a sturdy 12pt instead of the modern slim 8pt, making the 387 pages go by as fast as Miss Scarlett escaping Atlanta. -- Condition: Book and Binding are in very good condition. Pages are tanned, with a few marks in margins.
