First edition. 156 pp. Red cloth boards with original sleeve dust jacket. Published to coincide with the exhibition at Gagosian Gallery, New York in 2000. Three gatefolds and a tipped-in frontis. All works contained in the exhibition are illustrated and accompanied by excerpts from the Journal of Clinical Forensic Medicine, a text by novelist Gordon Burn, and an essay by Dr George Poste, Chairman of the US Department of Defense Science Board on Bioterrorism. The book references the academic scientific research publications that have inspired Hirst's work since the beginning of his artistic endeavours, placing the sculptures and paintings into what feels like a natural home. The diagram on the case shows the changes and processes affecting the body after death, and illustrated essay titles include The Epidemiology of Violence and Observations on Fatal Injuries to the Brain Stem and/or Upper Cervical Spinal Cord. These essays, and many more with their accompanying diagrams, tables and pie-charts, bring order and reason to unacceptably difficult events, like much of Hirst's work. We have been trading in Chiswick for 55 years - come and visit us in our bow-windowed c18th shop. All of our shipments are now tracked. Our Standard service is currently Royal Mail Tracked with FedEx, UPS and Parcelforce for larger parcels; local conditions vary so please be patient with us. Only 5 minutes walk from Turnham Green tube station on the District Line in West London. We ship via Priority Mail. If you would like us to upgrade to a tracked service, please ask, as this is available, as are Courier / UPS services. We can also offer a same day
delivery within London postcodes for some orders - ask for a quote. Valuable
items will be sent via registered airmail or one of the courier services. Large
orders can be sent via consolidation, which reduces the cost per book. In the
unlikely event of an incorrect description, a full refund will be provided, but
please e-mail/telephone first, and within seven days of receipt of the book.
All books are published in London and 8vo. unless stated, and remain my property
until paid for in full.
