Gutes bis sehr gutes Exemplar. Cloth binding of the period with gilt spine title, rich floral blind-stamping, and all-edges gilt. First edition. French-language edition. With an engraved title page and 69 additional steel- engraved plates after William Tombleson by Payne, Lacey, Taylor, Abresch, Barber, Woods, Le Petit, Shepherd, Young, Clark, Westwood, Carter, Smith, Bond, Jackson, and others, as well as the engraved map of the course of the Rhine. Binding lightly rubbed, somewhat bumped, and with a faded spine. The map with two small marginal tears (approx. 1 cm, one of them touching the image) and slightly darkened at the upper edge. A near fine copy.
