Chapters XII-XXI, pp. 81-183, relate his impressions of colonial life in Queenston, Hamilton, York, Cobourg, Peterborough, Montreal, Galt, Guelph, Goderich, St. Thomas, Chatham, Amherstburg, the Talbot settlement, the community of the Children of Peace , a religious sect founded by David Willson, and along the banks of the Grand River. The last section (pp. 323-473) is wholly devoted to a critical assessment of the state of agriculture in the two countries, stressing the superior advantages of settlement in the States over the relatively poor prospects in Canada.
