[Theology] FIRST EDITION. Two volumes as one. Small quarto (24 x 19cm), pp.[26]; [8]; 104; pp.[4]; 39; [35]. Contemporary brown panelled calf, rebacked to style with raised bands and gilt titles. Small black ink 'R.H.' to top right corner of fly-leaf, denoting the initials Woodhead commonly wrote under. Blind stamp of the American Congregational Association, Boston, to title page and one subsequent leaf. Boards rubbed and worn, quite heavily to corners. Very good. A balanced criticism of Martin Luther, accusing him of Pride, Sensuality and Pugnacity, without resorting to damning his character as purely evil or allied to Satan.
