Folio 16 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches, original publisher's boards with title and price on the upper board, later morocco back. Binding a bit worn. Half title, title, 2 leaves and 26 FINE HAND COLOURED AQUATINT VIEWS OF ROME, each with an accompanying leaf of text. List of plates on the verso of last leaf. First plate with a small marginal closed tear and the occasional marginal spot but in good condition with fine, clean, brightly hand coloured plates. THE RARE FIRST EDITION- some leaves of text watermarked Whatman 1820. Although sometimes found on grey paper and with a errata leaf- conforms to the basic description of the first edition in the bibliography Abbey Travel (180). A QUINTESSENTIAL ENGLISH COLOUR PLATE BOOK ON ROME. Little can be said by way of biography as there is virtually no information about Dubourg; the dates of his birth and death are unknown, and even his Christian name is not well attested. An armorial bookplate on the front endpaper.
