First edition. Quarto. Unpaginated. Eight-page introduction, ''Guidance for Guests'', by H.D.C. Pepler, illustrated with ten reproductions of early nineteenth-century wood-engravings. Printed in black and red on Japanese paper. Variant binding: Taylor and Sewell note copies ''in buff canvas boards with title blocked in gold'', also ''in blue linen boards with paper label''. This copy is in grey linen boards with paper label. Number 72 of 500 copies. Completely unused.On the front pastedown is the pictorial bookplate, designed by Philip Hagreen and printed in red, of Dunstan & Anne Pruden. Dunstan Pruden was a gold- and silversmith who became a member of the Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic at Ditchling where he established his workshop. In 1933 the Saint Dominic's Press published his book on silversmithing, illustrated by Philip Hagreen.Spine darkened. Covers a bit dusty and marked. Very good. Very scarce.
