WHEN RUSSIA DID DEMOCRACY From St Vladimir to Tsar Putin

• New B-format paperback edition.
• Kenneth MacInnes lived in Russia for twenty years, and has translated many Russian work into English and vice versa (including the novels of George Orwell). This gives him a unique insight, and access to Russian sources, that mean he is perfectly placed to write this book.
• December 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Soviet Union - this will generate significant media coverage, and this book is a perfectly timed commentary on the impact this had on Russia. It fills the gap between the end of the USSR and the rise of Vladimir Putin.
• An entertaining story full of colourful characters and events, this is an astonishing tale of what happens when one of the most powerful nations on earth becomes a democracy. With Putin's grip on contemporary Russia suffocating democratic freedoms, this book is also a tantalising glimpse at what the post-Putin era may bring.

Kenneth MacInnes lived and worked in Russia for two decades, from Gorbachev to Putin. He has translated 350 books, read papers at history conferences, investigated art crimes and defended himself against the Russian navy in a court martial. Returning to Britain, he worked for the UK Parliament in London and wrote articles for national newspapers.
