Item description from seller

[Interior design] FIRST EDITION, scarce. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.xix [1] 268. With 29 halftone plates and a tissue-guarded colour frontispiece. Publisher's blue cloth, light blue titles to upper board and spine, small illustration onlaid to upper. Fore and lower edges untrimmed. Internally bright and clean, some toning to endpapers. Minor rubbing to boards and spine, some gentle edgewear. Near fine. 'An art that has become an industry often ceases to be regarded as an art' (preface). This is a book about the aesthetic merits of wallpaper - why history necessitated its invention, why the combination of its appearance and texture adds something vital to a room, and why it shouldn't be overlooked as an artistic discipline.
