Half-title, engraved frontispiece by J. C. Bromley after a painting by Sir George Beaumont. A bit of offsetting to title-page, generally an excellent copy. The White Doe of Rylstone; or, The Fate of the Nortons is a long narrative poem by William Wordsworth, written initially in 1807 08 but not finally revised and published until 1815. It is set during the Rising of the North in 1569, and combines historical and legendary subject-matter. "During the summer of 1807, the Author visited, for the first time, the beautiful Scenery that surrounds Bolton Priory, in Yorkshire; and the Poem of The White Doe, founded upon a Tradition connected with the place, was composed at the close of the same year" (Advertisement).
