[Fairy tales / fantasy] COMPLETE SET, FIRST EDITION. Ten volumes, 16mo (13 x 8cm). In publisher's green cloth with gilt titles and elaborate gilt tooling to spines and front boards, blind stamped to rear covers; coated brown endpapers, all edges gilt. Seemingly a variant publisher binding with book titles on the fourth panel of the spine; the previous set we catalogued had volume nos.1-10 in this panel. Extremities very lightly rubbed, spine ends pushed. An unusually bright and complete set of the First Collected Edition. A scarce and desirable set. MacDonald was an innovator who created new worlds by bringing the strange logic of dreams to his writing. As well as an imaginative author of 'fancies', he was a Scottish minister writing religious and spiritual works. Later the subject of a study by C.S.
