This pamphlet, published "to commemorate the unveiling, on June 1, 1994, of a plaque to [Parke's] memory, on the Town Hall, Carrick-on-Shannon", offers a brief life of the surgeon who accompanied Henry M. Stanley on his expedition to rescue the governor of Equatoria, Emin Pasha. Parke had previously taken part in the attempt to relieve Gordon at Khartoum. He died in 1893, and a century later a memorial plaque unveiled in his home town in Ireland.
