A posthumous re-publication, corrected and amended from the first edition of 1615, the Exposition upon the Epistle to the Collossians presents a detailed analysis of the twelfth book of the New Testament, verse by verse. It emphasizes the importance of the pulpit in the experience of the godly, listing ten 'singular benefits' mediated to the faithful through diligent preaching. The work is dedicated to Edward Russell, the 3rd Earl of Bedford. Nicholas Byfield was a Calvinist preacher at St Peter's in Chester, and later vicar of Isleworth, Middlesex. Noted for his remarkable preaching abilities, Byfield was held in high esteem among the laity, including some of the puritan gentry.
