Add to basketFirst edition, first impression, of this scarce world atlas, published for Turkish primary school students under the editorship of the noted geographer Faik Sabri Duran (1882-1943), very shortly before Turkey adopted the Latin alphabet in 1928. We locate only two copies in libraries worldwide. Duran completed his studied in Europe before returning to his home city of Istanbul to teach geography. He published a great many atlases and textbooks during his career, as well as a biography of Jules Verne and an account of journeying from Istanbul to London by cargo ship. It was perhaps in England that he established contact with George Philip & Son, a renowned producer of educational maps which provided textbooks for many overseas clients. Today, the company is best remembered for supplying the Titanic with its navigational charts. Octavo (240 x 200 mm), pp. 16. With 15 chromolithographed maps. Monochrome lithograph illustrations to inside covers of wrappers.Text in Ottoman Turkish. Wire-stitched in the original printed card wrappers, green cloth backstrip. Wrappers water stained and evenly browned, spine worn at foot, edges of pages slightly foxed, not affecting maps. A good copy.
