Item description from seller

Original copper engraved map of Sicily (37.5 x 41.5 cm) issued in an edition of Sir Walter Raleigh's History of the World [first, 1614]. With inset maps of Carthage and Syracuse. Generally a very good copy. William Hole's map of the Middle East issued for Sir Walter Raleigh's Historie of the World. This map illustrates the battle of Syracuse in 414BC, between the Athenians under Nikias and the Spartans, another exhausting and undecided battle during the Peloponnesian War. Raleigh's successful but unfinished history ends with the year 130 BC. This map shows Nimrod's Biblical campaings and other movements of people mentioned in Genesis.
