Add to basketLondon: Baynard Press, 1962. Colour-printed map. Sheet 990 x 605mm. Small tears repaired, tape stains, laid on linen. A scarce London tube map showing the route of the planned route of the Victoria Line from Walthamstow to Victoria, published soon after work had started in 1962. The route had first been suggested in 1948, but post-war recession meant that the Parliamentary bill starting the scheme was not introduced until 1955. The first section to open has Walthamstow to Highbury & Islington, 1st September 1968, followed by King's Cross to Warren Street three months later, 1st December. The final three stations of this plan (Oxford Circus, Green Park and Victoria) were opened by Queen Elizabeth on the 7th March 1969, although the extension to Brixton was already under construction and were finished in 1972.
