India Photo Album J F Pearson and Patison. Oblong Folio (306 by 502)., Sixty-two albumen photographs ranging in size from 70 by 130mm to 340 by 270mm., most with titles in manuscript, fair tonality, red half-morocco, scuffed. An interesting album with a majority of photographs by the little known firm JF Pearson and Patison of Calcutta. This firm is rare and seldom seen in early travel albums. The cyclone of 1864 was well recorded at the time but few photographs were taken that were quite so arresting as those in this album.Ships and buildings are shown in a number of photographs, on the Hooghly River, Garden Reach, the temporary residence of the fifth king of Oude, Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. The album also travels to Assam, with a number of temples, topographical locations, types including some rare imagery of Naga Tribes. At the end of the album are some early views of Venice.
