First published in 1603, the work enjoyed immense popularity, going through nineteen editions over thirty-three years. Dod's emphasis on the moral principles within each commandment created a godly code of ethics influencing various life aspects such as marriage, the household, the calling, and the community. Dod's commitment to these Puritan ideals is evident in the enduring impact of the work, solidifying his legacy during a period marked by religious and political upheaval in England.
