About the Author
Ne en 1884 a Munich, dans une famille d industriels juifs orthodoxes, Lion Feuchtwanger obtient le titre de docteur en philosophie en 1907. Des les annees 1920, ses grands romans historiques, tels que Le Juif Suss, lui assurent une place de premier plan sur la scene litteraire allemande. Dechu de sa nationalite par Hitler, il s installe en France en 1933. Pendant la guerre, il est interne au camp des Milles et relate cette experience dans Le Diable en France. Apres avoir reussi a s echapper, il se refugie aux Etats-Unis, ou il poursuit sa carriere litteraire et meurt en 1958.
