The unexpected death of a crew member of the spaceship Argo during a ten-year voyage to a newly discovered, potentially habitable planet plunges the space-weary crew into a nightmare of suspicion as one man attempts to expose a murderer. Sawyer's first novel expertly combines mystery and sf in a fast-moving thriller recommended for sf collections.

Paperback. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. 1st printing of the first edition of the author's first book SIGNED on the title page with a black ballpoint pen. A mass market paperback original. This is a very early signature. It was signed by Sawyer at Ad Astra 11, which was held June 7-9. 1991, in Toronto, and the book was published in New York in December 1990. This copy is inscribed "For Joe -- with hopes for a golden future! Robert J. Sawyer Ad Astra 11." Indeed, Sawyer has had a golden career. A highly decorated writer of Science Fiction, he won the Nebula Award for Best Novel (1995), the Hugo Award for Best Novel (2003), the John W. Campbell Memorial Award (2006), the Robert A. Heinlein Award (2017), and multiple Aurora Awards (more than any other writer). This copy is surprisingly well-preserved and apparently unread. The book is tight. The artwork is bright and the surface of the covers is glossy. The page edges are tanned, and a short length of the surface of the top edge of the front cover is worn away, next to the spine. No reading crease or markings by a previous owner. The first hardcover was a book club edition. This is the true first. Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 002638
