LAID IN is a book mark produced by the publisher that shares the book's cover art and states that the novel has been "Shortlisted for the 1995 Giller Prize. (The winner to be announced on Nov.7, 1995)". Cream cloth boards with off-white end papers and gold titles. A remarkably well-preserved, flat-signed example which is tight with sharp corners. Unusual for the first edition, there is no evidence of the binder's glue typically visible under the end papers. Ghost of pencil erasure top edge of ffep. The jacket is bright, crisp and price intact and with sharp edges. A Fine Balance went on to win Mistry the Giller Prize, the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best Book and the L.A. Times Book Prize. The book was also nominated for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. The novel will serve as the basis of a forthcoming television series for HBO. About the Author

Rohinton Mistry is the author of a collection of short stories, Tales from Firozsha Baag (1987), and three internationally acclaimed novels, Such a Long Journey (1991), A Fine Balance (1995), and Family Matters (2002). His fiction has won many prestigious international awards, including The Giller Prize, the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best Book, the Governor General’s Award, the Canada-Australia Literary Prize, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Fiction, The Royal Society of Literature’s Winifred Holtby Award, and the Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize for Fiction. A Fine Balance was also an Oprah’s Book Club® selection.

Born in Bombay in 1952, Rohinton Mistry came to Canada in 1975.
