The recipient is the novelist John Fowles with whom Godwin collaborated on the books Islands and Land, the latter being what one of her obituarists claimed would be her best-remembered work. Fowles was also one of the many British writers photographed by Godwin in the sixties. On the front pastedown is his ornithological bookplate probably designed by Reynolds Stone.Fine.
