Signed by author Michael Connelly (name only) to the title page. Not price-clipped -- original price "L15.99 net in UK only" remains at bottom of jacket front flap. Book and jacket are moderately perfumed. The 3/4-inch top corner of title page was once torn away, but this has been replaced. There are no edge stampings or glued-in attachments in this signed first printing of Connelly's Edgar Award-winning first published novel. The four tell-tales of an ex-library history found here are 1) a carefully placed "Wiltshire Library & Museum Service / Withdrawn" stamping to bottom of title page; 2) a hand-inked crosshatch (octothorpe) to top of copyright page; 3) the numeral 0431 stamped to bottom of final page of text, and 4) the book is in handsome but plain (untitled) green boards, possibly imitation leather, likely a library binding. "Very good" original jacket -- now in removable protector -- shows some small stress cracks along each side of spine, and some fraying to top of rear flap.
