About this Item
First English edition, first impression, inscribed to Paul Gallico; 8vo; publisher's black cloth, titles to spine in silver, fore-edges severely foxed, endpapers rather browned, spine cocked, very good in the somewhat sunned dust-jacket. greene This first English language edition, was preceded by a translation in Swedish published by P.A. Norstedt & Soners the previous year. A major literary association copy with the author's signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'For Paul Gallico- arrears for.from Graham Greene'. One of Greene's 'big three' middle period titles after Our Man in Havana and The Quiet American, all three of which are rather uncommon in inscribed states. The present example - to a fellow novelist and thus a literary association is one the best we have seen. Paul Gallico's books apparently spent much of their lives somewhere very hot because almost all the library exhibited signs of foxing and browning. Seller Inventory # 105951
