FIRST EDITION, ASSOCIATION COPY with Signed Letter tipped-in. 8vo. dark red cloth hardback, gilt titles to spine completely faded and illegible. 132pp. with 2 folding plans, 2 colour plates and 7 b/w plates from drawings by the Author. Signed letter from the Author, dated 1883, to John L. Roget (Author of Sketches of Deal, Walmer & Sandwich, 1911) tipped-in to ffep. Roget's signature, address and date (1883) to front pastedown along with a small photographic portrait of Roget within a decorative border (please see photo). Earlier Bookseller's publishing details in pencil to blank verso of ffep. Occasional light foxing, heavier to prelims and plates. Cloth spine faded and gilt title now illegible. Boards lightly mottled with light edgewear. A Good Copy. Canterbury is close to London (about 1 1/2 hours by train) and only 30 minutes drive from the Channel Tunnel. The Chaucer Bookshop is situated in a beautiful 18th Century building inside Canterbury's city walls. The building was originally one house but was established as a bookshop in 1956. The adjoining property was also later acquired and the bookshop greatly extended. Amongst the wide range of books (on 2 floors) you will find art, architecture, history, English literature, topography, travel, food and wine, railways and many more. We have a variety of original prints and maps for sale and a selection of modern First Editions and fine bindings. We also stock a comprehensive range of Fine Art greetings cards and wrapping paper.
