The state of Kentucky has a unique military heritage, having involvement in all wars and conflicts since the birth of our nation. Call To Arms is a non-fiction anthology of events, persons, and facts related to Kentucky's remarkable military history. It documents thousands of interesting facts and stories about hundreds of men and women who served in the Armed Forces from the American Revolution to Bosnia and includes over 100 pictures. It provides material of general historic interest on such things as individual battles, statistics, places of military interest and Kentucky military units. Each chapters is chronologically organized by date and an index assists the reader to quickly find a person or action of interest.

About the Author

Colonel Larry L. Arnett is a native Kentuckian who entered military service in 1969 as an Infantry Officer. Trained as a Helicopter Pilot, he was assigned to the Republic of Vietnam in 1970-71, serving with distinction as an Aircraft Commander, Flight Leader, Air-mission Commander, and Instructor Pilot. Upon returning to the United States, he served as a Company Commander prior to leaving active service in 1973.

He joined the Kentucky Army National Guard in 1973 and became one of the youngest officers to command at Battalion and Brigade level. Highly decorated for meritorious service, he achieved the rank of Colonel prior to retirement in 1992.

He has a distinguished public service career with 26 years in Kentucky State Government. He served as the state's Director of Veterans Affairs from 1988-92 and Director of Air Transportation from 1992-94. He currently serves as Executive Director, Office of Kentucky Veteran Centers,Department of Veterans Affairs, directing the operation of a 300-bed nursing home and the construction of two additional 120-bed homes for elderly veterans.

A father of two, Colonel Arnett currently lives in Frankfort, Kentucky with his wife, Mary.
