Men from Oneida County served in the Civil War in thirty-three infantry regiments. Most, however, served in five infantry regiments (14th N.Y. Vol. Infantry, 26th N.Y. Vol. Infantry, 97th N.Y. Vol. Infantry, 117th N.Y. Vol. Infantry and the 146th N.Y. Vol. Infantry) that were known locally as the First through Fifth Oneida Regiments and an artillery battery.
