There is a further inscription on the title-page: ''Dearest Karel & Betsy - All love from the New York branch - love, John X''. In 1982 Reisz directed Guare's Gardenia in New York, and they had collaborated on other plays before that. When the Museum of Modern Art staged a tribute to Reisz in 2003 the evening was hosted by Guare.Fine.
