Add to basketFirst edition, first impression, second state binding with "Honeychile" silhouette on front cover, inscribed "Best wishes, Sean Connery" and "best regards, Ken Adam", and signed by John Barry. This copy was inscribed for the composer and lyricist Leslie Bricusse and has his additional annotations identifying the inscriptions or signatures. Bricusse (1931-2021) was the lyricist for the Bond songs "Goldfinger" and "You Only Live Twice". His musicals include Stop the World - I Want to Get Off, Doctor Dolittle, Scrooge, and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. He won two Academy Awards, one Grammy Award, and was awarded the Order of the British Empire. This was the first Bond novel to attract national controversy. "When he wrote Casino Royale (1953) for what was thought to be a minority audience almost all the critics politely applauded. But nothing disturbs like success" (Pearson, p. 325). Critics of Dr No were now revisiting Bond's graphic themes after being five years late to the cult series. The sixth Bond novel was also the first adapted for cinema. Starring Sean Connery in 1962, the film established the iconic theme music and opening gun barrel sequence used throughout the film franchise. Gilbert A6a (1.3). Octavo. Original black boards, spine lettered in silver, "Honeychile" silhouette on front cover in brown. With dust jacket. Tiny spots to edges; mild toning and foxing to jacket, spine ends a little rubbed, closed tear and creases to foot of front panel, unclipped: a near-fine copy in very good jacket.
