About this Item
Jenkinson (Robert Banks, 2nd Earl of Liverpool, 1770-1828). Autograph Letter Signed Liverpool dated August 24th 1812 (when Prime Minister 1812-1827) to unnamed recipient "My Dear Sir, I have according to your wish applied to Lord Melville in favour of Wm Boys (?) but I am doubtful of success - I will let you know when I receive his final determination, at all events you may rest assured I have done my best. yrs sincerely." 10 x 12 cmsPatronage in action! Almost certainly a request for a Naval appointment from the then First Lord of the Admiralty direct from the PM. It reads rather like an episode from a Patrick O'Brian novel.
