Add to basketMargery Lawrence was an English romance, fantasy, horror and detective fiction author, specializing in ghost stories. She is best known for her supernatural works, including; "Number Seven, Queer Street", "Nights of the Round Table", "The Floating Café" and more. Later in life she converted to spiritualism. Original copies of many of her books are hard to find, some of the more popular novels have seen reprints by the likes of Ash-Tree Press. This being the author's personal copy, uniformly bound and inscribed as was her practice. Bound in dark blue cloth, blue topstain, with, leather label on the spine. Inscribed in blue ink to the front pastedown: "Twentieth book published. Verse.", with the photograph from the dust jacket pasted to the front endpaper opposite and additional inscription: "Published before Xmas. 1950 Photograph taken in 1948, used as book jacket to "Fourteen to forty-eight." Margery Lawrence". An essential book for those wishing to know Lawrence better, a collection of autobiographical poems covering her life up until the death of her husband in 1948 to whom the book is dedicated. Though it is far from being a tribute to him, aside from the final poems, as she asserts in the introductory Note: "an over-large number of the verses are concerned with men, either as flirts, friends or flames. Well, I have always preferred men to women as companions; I still do so, quite unashamedly, and I suspect I always shall. And I suggest that if the vast number of reasonably attractive women published their diaries and if those diaries were written as frankly as mine those diaries would be fully as preoccupied with men, their interest in them or their attitude towards them, as this of mine!". A very good copy.
