A first edition, first printing published by Eyre & Spottiswoode in 1953. Signed with dedication by the author on the front free end paper. Includes the literary agents compliment slip which is also signed by the author. A near fine copy with only slight wear to the corners and head/base of the spine. Some browning to the text block. In a like unclipped wrapper with slight loss to the head and base of the spine. Some wear to the edges and corners. This work is acknowledged by scholars as culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
