Synopsis
David Axson was in turns stunned, bewildered, amused, impresed and thrilled by what he found when he first arrived in the U.S., from Disneyland and the Grand Canyon, to Death Valley and the Spruce Goose aircraft. The author's refreshing insights, mordant criticisms, and just plain awestuck wonder at what he and his family encounter--rock shows, grizzley bears, deer-and-Harley tangles--vividley illuminae the book. Axson's impressions serve to hold the mirror of reality to the reader's face. He liked it, though, and decided to stay. The how and why of his decision, made with eyes wide open, are food for thought for each of us.
