First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Anna, with best wishes, J. K. Rowling". The second Harry Potter book was published on 2 July 1998, following the first by a year. Sources suggest that an initial print run of 10,150 copies were released to an expectant British public, far in excess of the figure of 706 copies reported by the publisher and printer. Harry Potter was as yet unpublished in America, and a dispute arose when Amazon fulfilled orders for Americans by shipping them British copies. Errington A2(a). Octavo. Original matt laminated printed boards, spine and covers lettered in white, green, blue, black, and red. With supplied dust jacket. Front pastedown with pencil ownership inscription of the recipient's family. Ends and corners bumped, foxing to edges, brown mark to fore edge, affecting a few margins; unclipped jacket with small creases, hint of sunning to blue colour on spine, else bright: a very good copy in near-fine jacket.
