A beautiful, delicate illustration of the little mermaid rising out of the water and looking up at the spirits of the air that arc above her, with a ship in the distance. In fine condition. This piece was published as a full page colour plate opposite page 64 in the first edition of Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales illustrated by Appleton, published by Thomas Nelson and Sons, London.
