PRESENTATION COPY. New edition, privately printed for the author by the Chiswick Press, x, 108pp, engraved frontispiece by Randolph Caldecott, tailpiece by Kate Greenaway, both with tissues, some spotting to the tissues, pages otherwise appear clean, author's presentation inscription to Sir Rainald Knightley dated August 1883 on half title, letter to Lady Knightley from the author affixed to front free endpaper, Sir Rainald Knightley's armorial bookplate to front pastedown, original red buckram, spine sunned, corners bumped. Fawsley Hall, near Daventry, was the home of the Knightley family from mediaeval times. Sir Rainald was a member of parliament, as indeed were many of his forebears, for South Northamptonshire for forty years. Lady Louisa played and important part in local life and politics of Northamptonshire. Her journal, 1885-1913 gives a fascinating account of life and events in London and Northamptonshire. Size: 8vo. Simple double-ruled board decoration blind-stamped at head and foot of top and bottom boards; series device in gilt at centre of top board; lettering in gilt to spine. Boards rubbed, most pronounced at edges. Small dent at head of top board. A couple spots of soiling to cloth.
