First edition, "With the Compliments of John D. Rockefeller, Jr." card loosely inserted. Rockefeller was a strong supporter of prohibition, but came to see its repeal as inevitable. He commissioned this study to explore the methods employed by Canadian and European governments to control the sale of alcohol, hoping after repeal to still maintain a tightly regulated industry and still promote a voluntarily teetotaller society. Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket. A couple of short closed tears at head of front panel of unclipped jacket, a few trivial nicks at extremities: a fine copy in near-fine jacket.
