First edition, first impression, signed by the author on the title page. This copy is from the library of historian and auctioneer Anthony Hobson (1921-2014), with a loosely inserted card in manuscript from Nadira Naipaul dated 7 April 2006. In the note Nadira accepts Hobson's invitation to dinner, updates him on Vidia's health ("Vidia is fighting fit now and is very much his old self. Thank God."), and describes her desire to visit Cuba ("I have always wanted to go there just to enter Graham Green's [sic] world. There is a sinister, sensual, undertone to the place"). Octavo.
