First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the first blank, "For Aldis & Maria - dear friends, with admiration, love, & thanks, Carolee 12/87 - NY - Venice - NY", and with the recipient's blindstamp to the front free endpaper. The recipient was the notable American art dealer Aldis Jerome Browne (d. 2019), founder of Aldis Browne Fine Arts in New York City. He distinguished himself by assisting major museums, including MoMA, the Guggenheim, the Met, and LA's Getty Museum, acquire works for exhibitions. A "maven, connector, and art advocate", Browne "lent his considerable prowess to help artists, collectors, businesses, and political activists bring attention to various endeavours and causes" (obituary, Legacy online). Oblong quarto. Original blue boards, spine lettered in red, front cover in blind, red endpapers. Foot of spine bumped, a few marks to covers; jacket price-clipped, sunned and a little soiled, edges nicked with occasional chip or short closed tear: a near-fine copy in very good jacket.
