Limited edition of 35 numbered copies signed by the author-publisher. Pictorial bboards, pictorial endpapers, 8vo, 33, [2] pp, colour ills. From the Introduction: "This volume presents nine book covers that are unusual in their approach to art and design. They are so dissimilar from any others among the 1,500 or so that I have cataloged it is likely they are from the hand of one artist. None are signed or credited, which was normal for that time. Who could have done work like this? I have been trying to figure that out for more than a decade. The artist who seems most capable is John La Farge (1835-1910).". Fine. Signed by the author on the limitation page.
