First edition thus, trade issue, presentation copy inscribed by the editor; 4to; some light spotting throughout as usual; publisher's cream buckram backed decorated paper boards, top edge gilt others uncut, with the glassine jacket and printed outer dust jacket. A near-fine copy in the scuffed and rather frayed dust jacket, tanned and with a snag to the rear panel with loss. With the editor's signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'Cosmo Gordon from Geoffrey Keynes Dec. 1923'. The recipient was an intimate friend of Keynes for many years, a noted bibliophile and librarian the two had met as students and maintained their friendship throughout their lives. Keynes wrote, 'Cosmo and I found our tastes and interests were always in harmony and I came to love his particular sense of humour and gentle goodness, as well as to respect his unusual style of scholarship and general culture'.
