With a hand-written note from Murdoch in black ink on a single sheet of blue note-paper: 'For Margaret and | Harry, with much | love from | Iris | Just going away, till sept. 18, | forgive note.' loose to preliminaries. Publisher's brown cloth with gilt titles to spine. With the dust-jacket illustrated by John Ward, priced at 30s. Also with the black 'Book Society Choice' wrap-around band. A lovely crisp, clean copy, showing just a touch of wear to wrap-around band. Fine. Shortlisted for the 1969 Booker Prize. Celebrated Anglo-Irish writer Iris Murdoch was a winner the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1973, and The Booker Prize in 1978, which are among the most prestigious literary awards in Britain. Green cloth spine; olive boards with minor soiling and slight bumping to corners. Green top edge; a few stains to text block's fore-edge and bottom edge with some leaves fractionally affected at margins.
