Orkney Shore

1960. First edition. 200pp. Robert Rendall (1898–1967) was a Scottish poet, and amateur naturalist who spent most of his life in Kirkwall, Orkney. This book is a personal record of the Orkney shore, including observations on its marine fauna and biographical notes on early Orkney naturalists. It also presents the shore as having a dominant influence on the way of life in the islands. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some spots of tape staining near the top of the spine and top edge of up to about 2" of the front board (this has been taken from tape holding an old protective cover for the dustwrapper). The bottom of the spine is lightly bumped. The contents are tight and clean and the author has flat signed the half-title page. There is a name on the top edge of the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some light soiling and the spine and top 1/2" are slightly faded. The wrapper is in a removable clear plastic fronted protective cover. …
