Kingsley was a noted scholar of his day and, in this volume, he expresses his views on a number of issues during the World War I era. Kingsley was President of the New York Life Insurance Company. William Musgrave Calder [1869-1945] was a Republican who represented New York U.S. in the U. S. House of Representatives and the Senate. He became well known as the sponsor of the Standard Time Act of 1918 (also known as the Calder Act), the first U.S. law implementing standard time and daylight saving time in the United States.
