8vo. pp [8], 373, [3]. Original publisher's burgundy cloth, lettered gilt on spine and on front cover, with small ilustration of a perched devil. Inscribed by Atherton to American playwright Lawrence Rising, "To Lawrence Rising, hoping and believing, Gertrude Atherton, 1922." The book was made in to a film in 1927 starring Mae Busch and Pat O'Malley, directed by King Baggot. The subject of the novel features the society in Butte, Montana, and how it revolves around the mining interests. Light rubbing to cloth at edges and spine, with a slight lean, otherwise clean, very good. Seller Inventory # C39634
